Quality Mark Award for PE and Sport – with Distinction!

Quality-PE

The assessment panel has considered your application, together with the feedback from the validation visit, and the Association for Physical Education is delighted to award your school the Quality Mark with Distinction for ‘demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in Physical Education and Sport’.”

North Nibley School has been recognised by another National body for excellent work in Physical Education and Sport. The Association for Physical Education carried out an audit of provision and standards, including lesson observations, pupil, staff and Governor interviews, a scrutiny of monitoring, planning and assessment, and they reached the conclusion that the school deserved the prestigious Quality Mark Award for PE and Sport – with Distinction! They were particularly impressed by the range and depth of the opportunities on offer at North Nibley, including intra and inter-school competition, and the structure of the PE curriculum. Lessons were found to provide progression, differentiation and variation throughout the school. This has led to children developing a rich set of skills and strategies, enabling them to make good or better progress in PE. Over time our children have become highly independent in their learning. The panel reviewing the evidence especially liked the way that older children organise and run intra school competitions, including Sports Day, through the Play Leaders Award scheme. Also significant are the number of children who choose PE and Sports in extra-curricular (club) time.

Through creative use of additional funding, school leadership (including Governors) have prioritised both the extension of the PE curriculum (by adding additional hours of PE across the school) and training for school staff, so that the expertise demonstrated by Mrs Dixon is shared, to the benefit of all the children currently in the school.

The Governors have written to Mrs Dixon, acknowledging the excellent leadership she has shown in developing PE and Sports at North Nibley, and thanking her for her outstanding commitment to the children at our school.
